NFL, Cincinnati Bengals: Mike Gesicki showers Joe Burrow with praise and wants to prove himself

In the current offseason, tight end Mike Gesicki switched to the Bengals. He wants to prove himself in the new team and already has plenty of praise for his new quarterback

Next season, Mike Gesicki will wear the Cincinnati Bengals jersey for the first time. His move to the franchise marks the start of a new chapter for the tight end. In addition to a new environment and a new coaching team, he will also have new teammates and a new quarterback.

On the Bengals’ website, the 28-year-old commented on playmaker Joe Burrow: “He was someone I could turn to and talk to. He’s a leader in the locker room that a lot of guys look to. I’m definitely one of the guys who looks to him.”

He has also heard a lot of positive things about Burrow from other teammates. “He’s easy to talk to. He has a good sense of humor,” Gesicki continued.

However, it will be a while before the two train together for the first time. Burrow is currently still suffering from a torn ligament in his wrist. Gesicki could be a real asset to the Bengals’ passing offense.

No tight end has totaled more than 500 receiving yards in Burrow’s four seasons. Gesicki has done it three times in his six NFL seasons. He is considered a good kickoff returner and has caught over 20 touchdowns.

Bengals tight ends coach James Casey also believes in the backup. “It gives you flexibility when you feel like you have an above-average pass catcher as a tight end. We know Mike can do some of those things,” he is quoted as saying on the NFL’s website.

Gesicki himself wants to prove himself in the new team first: “So I have to go out there and earn the trust. It’s more about proving what I can do and earning more and more opportunities once football starts.

The Miami Dolphins drafted Gesicki in the second round in 2018 and he played five seasons for the franchise. He then went to the New England Patriots for a year before signing a one-year deal with the Bengals this offseason.
