Trey Handrickson wants a new contract and has been on strike recently. The Cincinnati Bengals are now apparently willing to let their star defender go.
The contract negotiations between the Cincinnati Bengals and Trey Hendrickson, which have been dragging on for months, have been stalled for some time.
The edge rusher has missed most of the Bengals’ offseason activities and recently stated that he would not play in the upcoming NFL season without a new contract.
The defensive star is undoubtedly hoping to cash in big time. He also has some good arguments on his side. After all, the 30-year-old has been one of the best pass rushers in the NFL for the past five years, racking up 35 sacks in the last two seasons alone.
Nevertheless, Hendrickson does not appear to be indispensable to star quarterback Joe Burrow’s team. According to NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the Bengals are now willing to listen to trade offers for the edge rusher.
Trey Hendrickson: Trade would likely be costly
The Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, and Indianapolis Colts are said to be interested, but a trade would likely be quite costly. The Bengals will likely demand a high draft pick and possibly a player in exchange, and Hendrickson will undoubtedly want a lucrative contract.
Hendrickson will now test the market. However, it is by no means out of the question that he will stay in Cincinnati if no other team is willing to dig deep into its pockets.
The poker game for the edge rusher is far from over.
