Wide receiver Rashee Rice of the Kansas City Chiefs suffered an unfortunate injury in the game against the Los Angeles Chargers in week four. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, of all people, crashed into his pass receiver.
Horror news for the reigning champion!
Wide receiver Rashee Rice, who led the Kansas City Chiefs’ receiving corps with 288 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the first three games, suffered an unfortunate injury in the first quarter against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Curiously, the 24-year-old was even injured by one of his own teammates. After an interception by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Rice chased Chargers cornerback Kristian Fulton, who was able to intercept the pass.
The star playmaker’s favorite target was even able to catch up with his opponent and knock the ball out of his hand, but was immediately knocked down by Mahomes, who had just launched himself forward with his shoulder to tackle Fulton.

Rashee Rice suffers knee injury
The second-round pick from 2023 then had to be transported off the field in the medical cart.
As reported by ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Chiefs announced shortly thereafter that Rice had a knee injury and would not return for the rest of the game.
During halftime, Tracy Wolfson of CBS Sports asked Andy Reid, the Chiefs’ head coach, if he could say anything about the severity of the injury. “No, but it’s not good,” was the brief reply. This suggests that Rice will be out for an extended period.
This would be a major setback for the Chiefs. Rice was by far Kansas City’s most effective pass receiver in the first three games of the season, with 288 receiving yards.
Kansas City wins, but struggles
The Chiefs ultimately won without Rice against the Chargers, but had a difficult time for long stretches of the game. They didn’t take the lead until 6:05 minutes before the end of the game when Samaje Perine ran into the end zone for the 17:10. The Chargers’ subsequent drive ended after six plays. Kansas City did not give up the ball again and ran down the clock.
The Chiefs have a perfect 4-0 record after four games.
