Some fans are facing serious consequences after the playoff game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins.
Some of the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins fans who were on hand for the Jan. 14 playoff game at Arrowhead Stadium are facing serious repercussions.
As a result of the fourth coldest NFL game in playoff history, some supporters have already had to receive medical treatment. Now some of those affected are facing even worse consequences.
As “Fox 4” reports, some fans are now threatened with amputations because the body parts affected by frostbite have not regenerated.
Due to the extreme cold of around -21 degrees Celsius, individual parts of the spectators’ bodies froze off. The pitch in the stadium alone is said to have had a temperature of -5 degrees Celsius.
According to “NBC Sports,” Dr. Megan Garcia, the medical director of the Grossman Burn Center, said that 70 percent of patients who suffered frostbite during the extreme cold period in the Kansas City area are advised to have amputations.
The majority of these patients reportedly received frostbite during the game between the Dolphins and Chiefs.
Back in January, Garcia estimated that between ten and 20 people would require amputations.
Dolphins lose in Kansas City’s ice hell
It is unclear which body parts are involved in the individual cases. Individual toes, fingers or even feet can probably be assumed.
The NFL had campaigned in advance for the game to go ahead, saying that there was no temperature that was too cold for a game.
The Chiefs defeated the Dolphins 26:7 without much trouble – no wonder, as the visitors from Miami are used to different temperatures
