NFL: Buffalo Bills prevail against Dolphins – Miami off to worst start in years

The Buffalo Bills secure their third win in their third game of the season. However, it is hard work against the Miami Dolphins.

In a close AFC East duel, the Buffalo Bills triumphed 31-21 over the Miami Dolphins in Week 3 of the NFL, continuing their perfect start to the season.

The Dolphins, on the other hand, continue to stumble and remain winless at 0-3 – their worst start since 2019.

In front of 71,202 spectators at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, the Bills displayed a dominant offense, led by quarterback Josh Allen, who impressed with precise passes and a strong running game.

The Dolphins fought bravely, impressively converting ten of 15 third downs, but crucial mistakes, including a roughing the kicker penalty when they had already stopped the Bills at 21-21, broke their necks.

Miami Dolphins: Tua with another late interception

Miami opened the game with an early touchdown, but the Bills responded promptly and led 21-14 after three of four quarters. The turning point came in the final quarter: Zach Sieler’s foul against Bills punter Cameron Johnston gave Buffalo a first down at Miami’s 36-yard line. Five plays later, Allen made it 28-21 with a 15-yard TD pass to Khalil Shakir.

The Dolphins pushed back and reached the Bills’ red zone with three minutes left on the clock. This is when the game-changing moment came: linebacker Terrel Bernard, the hero of the evening, intercepted a pass from Tagovailoa – the only turnover of the game. It was Tua’s fourth interception of the season and his tenth in ten games against Buffalo.

The Bills seized the opportunity: kicker Matt Prater (after an earlier miss from 39 yards) converted a 48-yard field goal to seal the 31-21 victory.

Allen improved his Thursday night record to 8-0 and his record against Miami to 14-2, throwing 45 touchdown passes in those games. He also threw the 300th touchdown of his career against the Dolphins.

In Week 4, the Bills host the New Orleans Saints, while the Dolphins must hold their own at home against the New York Jets on Monday, where a win is essential to ease the pressure on coach Mike McDaniel.
