Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger talks about his elbow injury, probably the first of its kind on an NFL signal caller.
Star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers says he’s trying something unprecedented.
Talking to media representatives, “Big Ben” revealed that his elbow injury, which forced him to retire early in 2019, was not comparable to baseball pitchers’ injuries.
He said that three out of five flexor tendons in his elbow were torn. According to Roethlisberger, he is the first NFL quarterback to attempt a comeback after such an injury.
“Big Ben” slimmer and lighter after injury
In order to achieve this, the Steelers’ signal caller also changed his physical conditions. He lost weight and also his body stature became thinner. He felt young, “if you can still feel young at that age,” said the 38-year-old.
Big Ben” also talked about his goals with the Steelers and announced: “I still want to win Lombardy (NFL winner’s trophy; editor’s note). And I deliberately say this with an ‘s’ at the end: “He feels that he still has “several years” left in the NFL, Roethlisberger added. With Tight End Eric Ebron he has a possible new main goal for the future.
But first “Big Ben” has to test if everything is okay with his arm. To do so, he would have wished for preseason games, said the 38-year-old. However, these were cancelled due to the Corona Pandemic.
Therefore, he and the Steelers will not know until September whether Roethlisberger is back to his old self and can complete his historic comeback.
