NFL: Baltimore Ravens – Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken on his relationship with Lamar Jackson: “Could have been better”

With John Harbaugh’s dismissal as head coach, offensive coordinator Todd Monken has also lost his job. Now he is speaking out about rumors that the team chemistry was not right.

Todd Monken, the still-offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens, has been self-critical in a candid interview. The 58-year-old was a guest on “The Ryan Ripken Show” and admitted that he didn’t do everything right during his three-year tenure.

“I didn’t coach Lamar Jackson well enough,” Monken said. “I didn’t build the relationship I could have built. I didn’t do the things that were necessary to win enough games this year and give us a chance.”

However, Monken emphasized that his relationship with Jackson had been fundamentally positive. “Lamar and I had a good relationship, in my opinion,” he explained. “Could it have been better? Of course. Lamar and I never had a problem.“

Nevertheless, Monken regretted that Jackson struggled with health issues during the 2025 season. ”I really wish Lamar had been healthy and we could have seen what we could have built on,“ he said. ” Where we got from 2023 to 2024, and then we just never really got going. You have to live with that.”

In their first season together in 2023, Monken led Jackson to his second MVP title in the NFL. The following year, in 2024, the quarterback finished second in the MVP voting behind Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills.

However, the 2025 season was disappointing for the Ravens, which Monken now sees as a personal failure. With the departure of head coach John Harbaugh, initiated by owner Steve Bisciotti, Monken is also expected to leave Baltimore.

Monken vigorously defended Harbaugh against accusations that he had lost the locker room. “I never saw Lamar and Coach Harbaugh not have a great relationship,” he emphasized. “I never saw Coach Harbaugh and any of our players not have a great relationship. Never. Not once.”
