NFL – Baltimore Ravens: Lamar Jackson apologizes to suspended fan after stadium incident

Quarterback Lamar Jackson apologizes after the fan incident in the game between the Ravens and the Bills. But he also has some words of warning.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has apologized to the fan he pushed away during the loss to the Buffalo Bills in Sunday night’s game on the first day of the NFL season.

“I apologize to that person—whoever it was—I don’t know who it was,” the playmaker told US journalists.

“My apology goes out to him. But: just stay cool next time. You can trash talk, but keep your hands to yourself. That’s all I can say about it.”

Drastic punishment for the fan

The incident occurred after a touchdown in the third quarter by Ravens receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Like Jackson and other Ravens stars, Hopkins was standing near the front row of the stands where the fan in a red Bills jersey was sitting.

The fan first pushed Hopkins and then Jackson against the helmet.

While Hopkins did not react, Jackson pushed the Bills fan away with both hands. Normally, NFL spectators are not allowed to be touched, but the action will probably have no consequences for the athlete. After all, the scene was initiated by the fan and the quarterback’s reaction was not too violent.

Incidentally, the fan’s behavior will have drastic consequences. According to ESPN, a Buffalo Bills official confirmed that the fan in question will be banned for life from all stadiums. That means not only Highmark Stadium, the Bills’ home ground.

Jackson and Co. are likely to be more annoyed about the result, though. With a 22-6 run in the final quarter, the Bills managed to win a match that seemed lost, 41-40.
