NFL: Baltimore Ravens draft record-setting player to protect Lamar Jackson

The Baltimore Ravens grab a new protector for Lamar Jackson in the NFL Draft. The rookie selected for the job is already setting a record with his entry into the league.

Munich – The Baltimore Ravens have secured offensive tackle Daniel Faalele in the fourth round of the NFL Draft.

The 22-year-old has played in college for the Minnesota Golden Gophers since 2018. In itself, the franchise’s pick doesn’t seem like anything special.

After all, the fact that Faalele is an Australian is nothing new either. Before him, 18 other players from Down Under made it into the best football league in the world.

The tackle is a bit special because he is the heaviest player in the league. Faalele weighs 174 kilograms – no other professional is heavier. Previously, Patriots tackle Trent Brown topped that ranking at 163 kilograms.

In total, there have only been a handful of players in NFL history who have weighed more than the Australian rookie.

By the way, the 6-foot-3 athlete doesn’t see his immense body weight as a disadvantage at all. “In the passing game, I can use my length, and in the running game, I’m able to generate explosiveness and power with my stature. For my weight, I’m pretty athletic,” he explained in an interview with The Guardian.

In future, the 22-year-old will be trained by Joe D’Alessandris, the Ravens’ O-line coach. “Coach ‘D’ is just amazing,” Faalele already raved. “We’ve already had a very good meeting. He’s given me that confidence. I think I’m in good hands with him.”

The offensive tackle had left home at the age of 16 and performed strongly in college. In December last year, his last game was capped with his first touchdown, going forward he will look to protect Lamar Jackson.
