Position change for the Baltimore Ravens. One of the team’s quarterbacks is converted to wide receiver
The Baltimore Ravens started their OTAs with two mobile quarterbacks, now they only have one. That one, of course, is Lamar Jackson and is the team’s superstar.
The other mobile quarterback, backup playmaker Malik Cunningham, has been converted to wide receiver by the Ravens, according to Ryan Mink, the team’s editorial director.
Cunnignham originally joined the Ravens last December when they drafted the rookie from the New England Patriots’ practice squad. The 25-year-old had already completed a few training sessions as a receiver with the Pats and even scored a touchdown.
With the Ravens, he is now also leaving the quarterback room and will compete for a reserve receiver role behind Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor. The number two playmaker position, meanwhile, appears to be up for grabs for Josh Johnson.
By the way, two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson once turned down a position change when some analysts thought he’d be better off as a wide receiver with his athleticism.
The now-converted Cunningham was also successful as a rushing quarterback, racking up more than 450 yards on the ground in five consecutive seasons at Louisville.
