NFL: Absent from Jets minicamp – Aaron Rodgers on ayahuasca retreat?

Aaron Rodgers is absent from the New York Jets minicamp. A media report suggests he’s indulging his enthusiasm for alternative healing methods instead

The New York Jets’ mandatory minicamp began a few days ago. The team’s biggest star – quarterback superstar Aaron Rodgers – was not present.

According to head coach Robert Saleh, the playmaker had informed the franchise of this “some time ago”. “He was very good at communicating, he was here the whole time. He had an event that was very important to him and he communicated it. If it’s important to him, it’s important to us,” the head coach continued.

However, the Jets did not give any details about where exactly the signal caller is. According to the Daily Mail, Rodgers is taking part in an ayahuasca retreat instead of preparing for the upcoming season with his teammates. He had already spent some time at a retreat in Costa Rica in March of this year.

The 40-year-old has been using alternative healing methods for years. Back in 2022, he reported on his experiences with ayahuasca, a plant decoction that contains the hallucinogenic drug DMT and can be consumed as a tea, for example.

Ayahuasca typically causes psychedelic states without loss of control of the musculoskeletal system. Ayahuasca has its origins in Central and South America. In the USA, possession, sale and cultivation are only permitted for religious purposes. In Germany, possession of ayahuasca is illegal

Rodgers enthusiastic about ayahuasca

“For me, one of the cornerstones of mental health is self-love. Ayahuasca did that for me, it helped me to love myself unconditionally,” he explained in a podcast with Aubrey Marcus, founder of the nutritional supplement company Onnit.

He continued: “Only with this unconditional self-love am I able to truly love others unconditionally. And what better way to work on my mental health than through an experience like this?”

Incidentally, Rodgers first consumed ayahuasca in 2020.
