NFL: Aaron Rodgers has signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers – initial reports on the terms of his contract

It’s now official. The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced that Aaron Rodgers has signed his contract, entering his 21st NFL season.

Aaron Rodgers is now officially a Pittsburgh Steelers pro. As the AFC North franchise announced with a photo, the four-time MVP has signed his contract as expected. This clears the way for his third stop and 21st season in the NFL.

According to ESPN, the one-year contract is worth $13.65 million, of which $10 million is guaranteed. In the best-case scenario, Rodgers will pocket $19.5 million. The remaining $5.85 million depends on his playing time and the team’s performance.

According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Rodgers arrived in Pittsburgh on Friday night. He is expected to be on the field at next week’s minicamp.

Interestingly, the Steelers will face Rodgers’ former team, the New York Jets, in Week 1, meaning the superstar will make a quick return to his old stomping ground.

NFL: Months-long odyssey with the Steelers comes to an end

This marks the end of a months-long odyssey. Since the start of the offseason in March, Pittsburgh had been considered the most likely destination for the 41-year-old if he decided to continue his career.

The Steelers’ personnel policy was also geared toward signing Rodgers, with the franchise failing to acquire a starter-caliber quarterback in either free agency or the draft.

However, Rodgers’ decision dragged on, and at one point it seemed conceivable that the Steelers could engineer a trade for Kirk Cousins from the Atlanta Falcons.

Aaron Rodgers disappointed with the Jets

Rodgers spent a total of two years with the Jets but failed to fulfill the hopes of the fans and the entire franchise for success.

He missed virtually his entire first season due to a torn Achilles tendon, and in his second season, the Jets clearly missed the playoffs and struggled with numerous internal squabbles. After the hiring of the new coaching staff led by Aaron Glenn, Rodgers was released by the Jets.

In Pittsburgh, Rodgers will join an offense that includes newcomer D.K. Metcalf but will be without George Pickens, who was traded to the Dallas Cowboys. Under offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, however, the focus is likely to be more on the running game anyway.
