New York Jets with Aaron Rodgers: Ex-Receiver Brandon Marshall Offers Comeback

The arrival of Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets is making waves. Now one of the franchise’s once best receivers announces he wants to come out of retirement for the quarterback

Aaron Rodgers has been a part of the New York Jets for less than a month, and already he has completely reinvigorated the franchise.

Tickets are selling like hotcakes, the franchise is getting more prime-time games – and it’s already seeing one ex-NFL player declare he’d come out of retirement just to play with the four-time MVP.

So Brandon Marshall, a six-time Pro Bowler after all, was asked on the “I Am Athlete” podcast if he would be interested in playing for the Jets if the opportunity arose. His quick answer, “Yes!”

Although he played his entire career as a wide receiver, he said he would be willing to move to the tight end position if it would give him a chance to play with Rodgers for a season.

“I’ll be able to contribute at a high level. Here’s what I can give you: 45 catches over the year, 20 to 30 plays in a game and I’ll score eight touchdowns. We’re going to win the Super Bowl,” Marshall said.

Marshall would return to Jets for Rodgers

The 39-year-old has enjoyed a successful NFL career spanning twelve years. In addition to his six Pro Bowl appearances, he also earned All-Pro honours in 2012. But: He also hasn’t played a game in five years.

Asked about the one or two hits he would have to take in a comeback, Marshall was decidedly less enthusiastic. “I look at the games now and I’m like, ‘How the hell did I do that?’ Maybe the first hit I’d think to myself, ‘Why did I do that?'”

Wholly mature, then, his comeback plan doesn’t seem to be.

Brandon Marshall spent two seasons with the Jets (2015 and 2016) and was the NFL’s top receiver with 14 receiving touchdowns in his first season for the franchise from the Big Apple.
