The New York Jets parted ways with running back Ty Johnson at the end of April. The 25-year-old had previously undergone surgery at the request of the team, followed shortly afterwards by his release.
Ty Johnson has not been under contract with the New York Jets since the end of April. In an Instagram video, the running back now commented on his dismissal and explained how much it and its process had taken its toll on him.
“I had some dark, dark days. I went to New York and told them about the injury. The team doctor said, ‘You need to have this operated on.’ I came back and was glad I had it done, even though I didn’t want it. The following Wednesday they said, ‘You’re out,'” the 2019 sixth-round pick reported.
An unpleasant experience for Johnson: undergoing surgery at the request of his franchise, only to be kicked off the team shortly thereafter….
New York Jets: Ty Johnson to have surgery and is released
Previously, Johnson had torn a muscle fibre in his chest during an offseason workout. The separation hit him, as he continues. “I was just like, ‘Damn,'” Johnson said, but he won’t let that get him down.
“At the end of the day, I know I’m going to be fine. I just have to keep going,” said the former Detroit Lions running back, optimistic about the future.
Johnson played in 17 games last season, but only ran for 160 yards and one touchdown. He also caught twelve balls for 88 yards. It is still unclear where he will play in the coming season.
