Aaron Rodgers criticises the New York Jets’ public squabbles. His head coach and some teammates agree with him
New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh has agreed with the criticism of his team by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is absent because of a torn Achilles tendon.
Rodgers had admonished his team on the “Pat McAfee Show” to refrain from bickering on the sidelines in the future and to handle negativity better.
On Wednesday, Saleh responded at a press conference: “He [Rodgers, editor’s note] is equal parts coach and player, has played with young players and also experienced difficult times. He has seen it all. So I don’t think he’s wrong in recognising problems and addressing them.”
Nevertheless, the 44-year-old also put himself in front of his team. Rodgers is not wrong with what he has said, “but at the same time these are young players who are showing a bit of their frustration. But that’s not a drama. “
On the sidelines of the team’s 10-15 loss to the New England Patriots, cameras had caught heated discussions between running back Michael Carter and wide receiver Garrett Wilson with assistant coaches. However, both players had played down the incidents after the game.
It’s not just Saleh: Players also agree with Rodgers
In addition to Saleh, cornerback D. J. Reed had no problem with Rodgers’ comments. When asked about it, the 26-year-old said, “He’s right. You can’t act like that and show how frustrated you are on the sideline.”
Centre Connor McGovern, who was also asked about the issue, echoed the same sentiment: “He’s trying to support us. We shouldn’t be arguing on the touchline. […] It creates the wrong atmosphere. […] It can create panic and we just can’t have that.”
New York had inked a trade for Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers in the offseason. With the Jets, the 39-year-old had taken on a leadership role straight away, but tore his Achilles tendon in his first game, which is why he is out for a long time.
