New York Jets: Quarterback Mike White safe – Should have been No. 1 pick

After Zach Wilson’s injury, Jets quarterback Mike White may take his chance as a backup. Now the playmaker explains that he believes he should have been selected as the No. 1 pick in the draft.

Munich – Mike White has had to wait a long time for his success in the NFL.

In college, he transferred from South Florida to Western Kentucky, and in 2018 he was finally drafted by the Cowboys in the fifth round. Until a few weeks ago, however, the quarterback never took the field in an NFL regular-season game. It was only when Zach Wilson was injured by the New York Jets that he got his chance – and made the most of it.

Especially in his first game as a starter, White impressed with more than 400 passing yards and three touchdowns. And the 26-year-old will also be on the field next Sunday in the game against the Buffalo Bills.

White sure: Should have been No. 1 pick

If the playmaker had his way, success in the best football league in the world could have come sooner. So White has always believed in himself, even when teams clearly did not.

As to what that was due to, the signal caller doesn’t really know the answer. “I can’t put my finger on it. It’s definitely up to the scouting departments of the league and how they evaluate my performance,” he explained in this regard.

He added: “I have 100 per cent confidence in myself. In my opinion, I should have been the No. 1 pick in the draft. But that was four years ago. I try not to worry about that, just focus on the here and now and doing my job,” White continued.

This season, the backup has been more convincing than actual starter Zach Wilson. It is still unclear what will happen when Wilson returns from his injury break.
