Shortly before the trade deadline, the New York Jets reportedly tried and failed to trade for Davante Adams. But after new trouble with the Las Vegas Raiders, the Jets want to try again
Lots of movement at the Las Vegas Raiders: Head coach Josh McDaniel has had to resign and starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has also lost his job to rookie Aidan O’Connell. So it’s not surprising that star receiver Davante Adams is struggling. The wide receiver had recently openly expressed his displeasure with the Raiders’ current situation.
There was even talk of an Adams trade. The New York Jets were reportedly interested before the deadline, but the Raiders turned them down. Adams is too important for the Raiders’ ambitions, despite the disappointing season so far.
Adams came from the Green Bay Packers in the summer of 2022. His good connection to then-quarterback Derek Carr, who is now with the New Orleans Saints, played an important role.
However, the Jets are not letting up in their efforts to reunite Adams with an old acquaintance: according to ESPN, the New Yorkers will try to win Adams over again in the coming offseason. The Jets would reunite Adams with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The two were regular nightmares for opposing defenses in the Green Bay days. A trade that would make perfect sense from the Jets’ perspective.
New York Jets: Comeback of the dream duo?
The defense is already one of the best in the league. With Rodgers at quarterback, a solid offensive line and Adams together with Garrett Wilson at the receiver position, the Jets would probably be an immediate contender for the Super Bowl.
It remains to be seen whether the Raiders really want to let Adams go. Much also depends on the outcome of the current season. If the signs point to a rebuild in Las Vegas, the chances of a trade are likely to increase significantly.
