New York Jets: Justin Fields responds to criticism from owner Woody Johnson: “Everyone is entitled to their opinion.”

After Woody Johnson, owner of the New York Jets, sharply criticized quarterback Justin Fields, Fields has now responded—and tried to downplay the situation.

“The decision rests solely with Aaron Glenn,” the head coach of the New York Jets. Team owner Woody Johnson still feels this way even after the disastrous 0-7 start to the NFL season. So now a quarterback change is looming—and the most powerful man in the franchise agrees.

Tyrod Taylor already replaced Justin Fields, who was repeatedly counted out, in the last game against the Carolina Panthers. It was the third time this season that Taylor entered the field without Fields being injured.

Despite two interceptions and no touchdowns, Johnson is now pushing for a complete change and backing his coach: “The offense just isn’t working. And you can’t run the ball if you can’t throw it.“

He clearly criticized his current quarterback Fields without mentioning his name: ”It’s difficult with a quarterback with his rating. He has the skills, but something just isn’t working. You have to play consistently in that position, and we’ll try to do that for the rest of the season.”

He continued: “If we could just complete one pass, things would look better.”

New York Jets – Justin Fields responds to criticism

Fields, who first learned of the comments from reporters, was unimpressed. He has no plans to talk to Johnson and doubts that Johnson will approach him. “I don’t think talking to him will do any good. It won’t make me any better or give me more confidence on the field,” explained the former Chicago Bear. “Everyone has an opinion, and I decide whether it affects me or not. I don’t care. Of course, I know I have to play better, and so does our team. As a quarterback, you always get the blame—that’s part of the job. You just have to believe in yourself, whether it’s from the boss, your family, or your teammates.“

Despite the turmoil, Fields rejects speculation about a possible benching: ”I don’t answer ‘what if’ questions. That’s just a distraction.
The focus is on Sunday’s game.” The Jets are desperately searching for their first win of the season, while the rumor mill is in full swing.
