New York Jets: Haason Reddick demands trade after only 5 months – Jets react

The New York Jets snapped up edge rusher Haason Reddick in a trade back in March. Now he wants to leave again because he can’t get a new contract – a reaction from the Jets follows promptly

A sixth-round pick in 2026 is actually far too little as a trade price for a player like Haason Reddick – but it’s still common.

The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t want to give Reddick the contract extension he demanded, so he was traded to the New York Jets, who were apparently willing to do so.

The emphasis is on “were” – because the situation surrounding the edge rusher has completely escalated. So much so that he demanded another trade after just five months and not a day at training camp.

While such issues are not usually addressed publicly by teams, Jets general manager Joe Douglas reacted immediately. A statement on Reddick’s trade request was immediately published on the website.

“We have informed Haason that there will be no trade, that he is supposed to be here and that he will be penalized for every day he is not here,” Douglas said.

“We were very clear on our position in March and we’re sticking to it. We’re focusing on the players who are actually here and with whom we’re preparing for the regular season,” he continued.

Reddick has only been to the Jets’ training facilities once – for his medical in April. His absence has already cost him 1.7 million dollars, with every day adding 50,000 dollars to that figure.
