The New York Jets’ season will end with a negative record. Aaron Rodgers is nevertheless in favor of GM, head coach and OC. And the quarterback should get his way.
And Aaron Rodgers’ word carries weight, of course. Even though he only made four plays for the New York Jets this season.
“I believe in the leadership we have here,” Rodgers said on the “Pat McAfee Show”. “I believe in our guys. It’s not a situation where we have to rebuild. We have to reload a little bit, and there are going to be some tough decisions. I like the pieces we have in place.”
While Rodgers initially remained fairly general about the Jets’ personnel situation, he also got more specific.
Aaron Rodgers doesn’t want any changes at the top
The 40-year-old wants to continue with general manager Joe Douglas, coach Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. This is no surprise, especially with Hackett, as both have already worked together in Green Bay.
“I believe in Joe Douglas,” Rodgers continued. “I think he’s put together a lot of great draft picks and a great squad. I believe in Robert Saleh. I think he’s a fantastic coach. He’s got the right tools. I believe in Nate Hackett. I always have. The offense he runs is quarterback-friendly.”
As the well-informed NFL Network reports, owner Woody Johnson actually has no plans to make any changes. Accordingly, the Jets will continue to be led by the aforementioned trio in 2024.
Saleh will finish a season with a negative record (currently 5-9) for the third time in a row since taking office and miss the playoffs.
Above all, the injury to hopeful Rodgers, who tore his Achilles tendon in the first game, caused sporting problems. However, Saleh did not cut a happy figure in the search for a suitable successor. On Sunday against the Washington Commanders, Trevor Siemian will be the playmaker, the fourth starter this season alongside Rodgers, Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle.
