Two months ago, Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon in his first game with the New York Jets. Now the superstar quarterback has hinted at an amazing comeback
Aaron Rodgers is probably planning to make a sensational comeback as early as mid-December, reports “NBC”. The four-time MVP revealed this in a conversation with NFL reporter Melissa Stark.
It has been two months since Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles tendon after just four snaps in his debut for the New York Jets. Shortly afterward, the team announced his probable season-ending injury.
But since then, Rodgers has hinted several times that he is aiming for a much earlier comeback. The background to this is probably the innovative Speedbridge operation that the quarterback underwent after his injury.
Last week, after the game against the Chargers, Rodgers had already hinted at a possible return “in a few weeks” – a few days later, however, he rowed back again – and admitted that there was “no exact timetable”.
Now, however, the 39-year-old has apparently leaked a more precise comeback timeline. Whether Rodgers will actually be on the pitch at the end of the regular season will probably also depend on how the New York Jets’ season progresses.
After the defeat against the Las Vegas Raiders, their second in a row, the Jets’ play-off hopes have sunk dramatically. Especially offensively, the team around backup Zach Wilson is struggling immensely.
Aaron Rodgers: Comeback only with playoff chances
There’s no way Rodgers would risk an early return if his team is already out of the playoff race in December.
However, if the Jets can get back on track over the next few weeks, Rodgers seems poised to make a sensational comeback against all odds.
