Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson has particular problems with an NFL rule and is hoping for a change.
The Minnesota Vikings finished the regular season with the second-best record in the entire NFC last NFL season, but were still only seeded fifth in the playoffs because they failed to win their own division.
As a result, the team had to play away in the postseason, which is something wide receiver Justin Jefferson has a problem with.
In an interview with Yahoo Sports, the pass receiver was asked whether teams with better records in the Wild Card Round should have home-field advantage in the playoffs. His clear answer: Yes!
“When you look at our performance last season and then consider that we had to play away, it definitely made a difference,” said the 26-year-old.
Home advantage for teams with a better record should therefore “definitely be considered.” In Jefferson’s opinion, it cannot be right that a team with 14 wins “goes into the playoffs and then plays away.”
Proposal for rule change rejected
However, the athlete also admitted that the Vikings missed out on securing the division and even conference victory with their defeat in the last game of the regular season against the Detroit Lions.
“We definitely had a chance to secure home-field advantage in the last game in Detroit. But even though we lost the game, we felt like we should have had home-field advantage,” Jefferson continued.
Nevertheless, he said the away game was no excuse for the 9-27 defeat in the Wild Card Round against the Los Angeles Rams.
Incidentally, rival Detroit Lions had submitted a proposal for that very rule change before the NFL owners’ meeting last offseason, but it did not receive enough support.
