Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are by far the best wide receiver duo in the NFL. The Miami Dolphins’ two stars also benefit another who is finally performing thanks to the two receivers. Head coach Mike McDaniel calls this a recipe for success.
Munich – When Tyreek Hill was traded from the Kansas City Chiefs to Miami in the offseason, it was clear to everyone involved that he would have a huge impact on the Dolphins’ offensive power. However, it was probably not expected that the wide receiver would improve and round out the offence to such an extent.
A look at the bare numbers proves Hill’s positive impact in Miami. The wide receiver already has 961 receiving yards after eight games. With that, Hill leads the league in receiving. In last Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, “Cheetah” totaled 188 yards – the fourth time he has amassed over 160 yards this season.
Dream duo Hill and Waddle
Although Hill has only scored two touchdowns this season despite these outstanding statistics, he is the terror of any NFL cornerback. Even double coverage doesn’t help the defenses much against Miami, because if Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s ball doesn’t get to Hill, it just flies to Jaylen Waddle.
Waddle emerged as Miami’s scoring machine against the Lions and now has five touchdowns this season after his two scores. What’s even more impressive is that the pass receiver has the fourth most receiving yards on the docket with 727. So the Dolphins have two receivers in the top four of pass receivers.
Together, then, the receiving duo already has 1688 yards – no other NFL duo has ever had that many before after eight games.
McDaniel: “They’re working like crazy “
For Miami head coach Mike McDaniel, it’s just the result of hard work, as he explained after the win over the Lions. “They’re working like crazy. They know how important they are to the team, but so do the others. Everyone on our team knows they can score in a drive.”
But McDaniel is also aware of the value of having such a duo of receivers in the ranks. “If we can get that going every week, that’s a recipe for success that’s hard to stop,” the head coach said.
Tua shows them all
Hill and Waddle’s outstanding performances, incidentally, are benefiting another. One who is also responsible for the top stats of the two receivers: Dolphins quarterback Tagovailoa.
Tua is playing a great season, contrary to many expectations, and with his performance against Detroit (382 yards/three touchdowns) at the latest, he has returned to the NFL after missing time due to concussion.
By the way, Tagovailoa confirms what Hill had preached over and over again in the preseason and what many still doubted: His passes are coming in, because he is one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the NFL. Hill had always defended his playmaker, even putting him above former teammate and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes in terms of accuracy.
Where do the Dolphins end up?
Many NFL fans doubted it, but are currently being proven wrong. After all, Tagovailoa’s 69.9 percent completion rate ranks third among all starting quarterbacks (those starting since Week 1) in the league. Only Geno Smith (72.2) and Matthew Stafford (70.5) are more likely to complete a pass.
So not only are the Dolphins in third place in the AFC East with a positive record of 5-3, but they also have a big-play quarterback and the best receiver duo in the NFL. The trio’s interplay is the Dolphins’ recipe for success, according to McDaniel. A recipe that will carry Hill, Waddle and Co. into the playoffs?
