The NFL is known for its numerous and sometimes curious penalties. Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins has now caused something that you don’t see every day either.
Tyreek Hill was one of the outstanding men on the “Fins” side in the Miami Dolphins’ 70-20 win over the Denver Broncos in Week 3.
Alongside running backs Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane and playmaker Tua Tagovailoa, the wide receiver provided the 70-point haul against the Broncos and Russell Wilson.
A few days after Miami’s near-record game, however, other headlines caused a stir – a league penalty on Hill.
The star receiver put the first score on the board with a 54-yard touchdown – but without wearing (high) socks.
According to the rules, that is not allowed in the NFL. And now the “Cheetah” has to pay for it.
As Hill told the Palm Beach Post, the NFL fined him 7,000 US dollars for not wearing socks during the drive.
“I had an IV and didn’t want to be late for the play,” Hill said, explaining the lack of socks.
“There just wasn’t time for me to do that.”
While Hill says he still hopes the NFL will reduce the fine, with a current annual income of around $26 million, the amount of money shouldn’t seriously hurt him.
Hill not the first dress code offender
In the past, NFL pros have also been fined for not following the NFL’s sock dress code.
In 2013, San Francisco running back Frank Gore was fined $10,500 for showing too much skin.
JuJu Smith-Schuster was fined 5,000 US dollars in 2020 for not covering his lower leg.
