During the off-season, Tua Tagovailoa has an exciting plan to best avoid future injuries. The Miami Dolphins quarterback is trying judo training.
One of the most shocking moments of the 2022 NFL season was the serious injury to Tua Tagovailoa. The Miami Dolphins quarterback suffered a severe concussion when he fell on his head in a game against the Green Bay Packers on 25 December. He also likely suffered at least two more concussions during the season.
He has not played since the Packers game and missed the playoffs. To avoid another potentially serious head injury, Tagovailoa has now discovered a surprising form of training for the offseason: the 24-year-old is trying judo.
Tagovailoa’s training schedule: Friday is judo wear
On the show “Up & Adams”, Tagovailoa explained in more detail his judo plan, which came about at the suggestion of US judoka Jason Morris. “We came up with a plan. I do judo on Fridays just so I can kind of figure out how I understand my body and how I fall,” the quarterback explained.
“I’ve always thought about and wanted the NFL to hire an experienced judoka or judo coach to teach football players some judo,” Morris said, “that starts with learning how to fall properly.” That’s exactly how Tagovailoa wants to manage to stay away from serious head injuries in the future.
“I have all the information I need to move forward with the decision I made with myself, my wife and my family,” he said most recently during Super Bowl week on “Yahoo Sports” regarding his 2023 NFL comeback.
