The Los Angeles Chargers have unveiled Jim Harbaugh as their new head coach. At a press conference, he speaks of both humility and his goal of winning multiple titles
Jim Harbaugh is back in the NFL. After winning the college championship with the Michigan Wolverines in January, he is now the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.
Harbaugh made no secret of his ambitions with the team led by star quarterback Justin Herbert, which disappointed last season. He wants to aim high with the Californians – and believes the conditions for this are in place.
“We’re in one of the greatest cities there is. One thing I know is that Los Angeles respects talent, dedication and winning multiple championships. We’re going to be humble and hungry, but that’s our goal – to treat people first class and win multiple championships,” the 60-year-old said at a press conference on Thursday.
He continued: “We will respect all our opponents and earn their respect. We will earn our victories. Being a tough team, a resilient team, a relentless team, a physical team – that’s what we strive for.”
It is not yet clear which coaching staff will support him. Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore left for Philadelphia after just one season and a successor has not yet been presented. They are currently still going through a process

“That’s the number one priority next to getting to know the players. It’s about putting the staff together. We want an all-star staff that is worthy of coaching our players. That’s what we’re working on,” Harbaugh explained.
The new strong man on the sideline also commented on his playmaker Herbert. “What strikes me is his tremendous talent. I wake up very early these days and think: ‘I have to do my best’,” Harbaugh also took himself to task and praised the entire team in the process: “I really think it’s a talented group that’s been put together here. That’s what’s going to motivate and drive us.”
Although Harbaugh has various stars at his disposal at their respective positions in Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen and Derwin James, they largely fell short of expectations in 2023. The Chargers are also almost 44 million US dollars over the cap. It is quite possible that some players will leave the franchise.
After all, the weak regular season, which only finished with a record of 5-12, means Harbaugh and Co. have a pick in the top 5 in the upcoming draft.
