Quarterback change in Las Vegas! Raiders Head Coach Josh McDaniels announces that Derek Carr will no longer be the starting quarterback for the remaining two games of the season. Even as a backup, he falls away.
Bang for your buck in Las Vegas! Raiders Head Coach Josh McDaniels has announced that Derek Carr will not be the starting quarterback for the remaining two games of the season.
But that’s not all: Carr will not only be benched, he will be directly dismissed from the Raiders’ squad. In his place, Jarrett Stidham will slide into the starting lineup for the game against the San Francisco 49ers, who has never played an NFL game from the start and only 61 passes ever in the league.
Carr no longer on squad
“None of us are happy with where we are right now,” McDaniels said at Wednesday’s press conference. “But we think it’s a good opportunity for a young player who hasn’t been able to show that much so far. “

Stidham’s backup will be Chase Garbers – Carr will be inactive on Sunday.
Carr leads the NFL in interceptions. 14 times this season, a pass from him has found its way into the arms of an opponent – Carr threw three picks in a 10-13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last game day alone.
McDaniels: “There’s a lot to work through “
“We’ve talked to Derek and he understands the situation we’re in right now,” McDaniels said, immediately ranking what the change means at the quarterback position. “There’s some postseason work to be done. “
The Raiders would save $29.25M in 2023 salary cap space if they traded or cut Derek Carr. That decision must be made 3 days after the Super Bowl. https://t.co/KIJxhFaWoi

As NFL insider Ari Meirov reports, the Raiders would save nearly $30 million in cap space if they trade or cut Carr. The decision must be made no later than three days after the Super Bowl – but the door is already wide open.
Carr had signed a three-year, $121.5 million extension to his contract in April of this year – but it included a clause that the Raiders could opt out of it during the offseason.
Breaking: The Raiders have officially benched franchise QB Derek Carr.
Will start Jarrett Stidham.
