The Las Vegas Raiders part ways with wide receiver Henry Ruggs III, who allegedly caused a fatal accident while under the influence of alcohol.
Munich/Las Vegas – The Las Vegas Raiders have released their wide receiver Henry Ruggs III after he was involved in a serious fatal accident early Tuesday morning.
Ruggs allegedly hit the rear of another car while under the influence of alcohol. While the 22-year-old suffered non-life threatening injuries, the other victim’s car burst into flames. The 23-year-old woman sitting in it died at the scene of the accident.
Prison sentence of up to 20 years looms
A charge of unlicensed driving under the influence of drugs causing death is expected and could result in a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
“The Raiders are aware of the accident involving Henry Ruggs III that occurred in Las Vegas on Tuesday morning,” a team statement initially said.
“We are devastated by the loss of a life. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family. We are in the process of gathering information and will have no further comment at this time.”
Nine hours later, the Raiders announced the dismissal.

Ruggs was selected at No. 12 overall by the Raiders in the 2020 NFL Draft. Last season, he caught passes for 452 yards. This season he has been in emerging form, catching passes for 469 and two touchdowns after seven games.
