After days of silence, Raiders owner Mark Davis speaks out on the Jon Gruden case. The ex-coach would not stand for the Raiders’ values. At the same time, he apparently senses a conspiracy against him.
Munich – Although Jon Gruden already resigned as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders last Monday, team owner Mark Davis shrouded himself in silence for days.
“I don’t have anything to say. Check with the NFL,” he told “ESPN” as recently as Wednesday. After his team’s first win of the post-Gruden era against the Denver Broncos, Davis finally spoke out on the matter.
“Raiders stand for diversity, inclusion and social justice “
He made it clear that the franchise’s values are not the same as the ex-coach’s: “The Raiders stand for diversity, inclusion and social justice,” the 66-year-old told the Las Vegas Review Journal. “That will always be the case. The emails that were released are not what we stand for, that’s why Jon Gruden is no longer our head coach.”
He continued, “That’s all I can say about it. There’s a lot of talk about it, but we just don’t stand for that kind of thing. “
Criticism of the Raiders organization also arose in recent days because, despite the release of the emails, officials made no move to fire Gruden, instead waiting for him to resign.
Davis smells conspiracy
According to a “CBS” report, however, Davis is not one hundred percent satisfied that he had to let his head coach go. Rather, he suspects a real conspiracy behind the leaked emails that ultimately led to Gruden’s dismissal.
According to the report, the entrepreneur is very angry about the NFL’s actions and is even considering legal action against the league. Davis is said to have mentioned several times internally that the league officials were specifically targeting Gruden and the Raiders.
Continually at odds with the league
“He thinks the league is out to get him,” an inside source is quoted as saying by “CBS.” The fact that the emails came to light in the course of the investigation against the Washington football team and that no one there was punished is said to make Davis angry. There have already been repeated disputes between the league and the Davis family in the past.
When team owners meet with the NFL for official meetings later this month, there should be some talking to do.
