Las Vegas Raiders: Next shock – Damon Arnette charged after accident

The leaders of the AFC West are sliding from one problem to the next. After the email scandal around former head coach Jon Gruden and the serious accident of Henry Ruggs III, another Raiders player is now in the sights of the police. This time, too, it involves a traffic accident.

Las Vegas/Munich – The Las Vegas Raiders just can’t catch a break.

A few days after the serious traffic accident of receiver Henry Ruggs III, another Raiders player is suspected of being involved in an accident. Last year’s first-round pick Damon Arnette is the subject of a related lawsuit, according to media reports.

Accident alleged to have occurred last year

Unlike Ruggs, however, the cornerback’s accident is said to have happened almost a year ago. As reported by the news portal “TMZ”, Arnette is said to have collided with a woman’s car on 14 October 2020 on his way to the NFL team’s facility.

As the indictment states, the pass defender allegedly almost missed the exit to the facility, causing him to make a reckless turning manoeuvre at a speed of 65 miles per hour (c.a. 104 km/h; ed.) in order to still catch the exit.

In doing so, Arnette rammed into the driver’s side of the road user and caused extensive damage to both vehicles.

Serious charges against Arnette

In addition, the prosecutor is making serious accusations against the former Ohio State Buckeyes player. For example, Arnette allegedly committed hit-and-run and went to the nearby Raiders facility instead of helping the injured woman.

In addition to a concussion, the woman has suffered from panic attacks, depression and persistent pain in her neck and back since the accident. According to her own statement, the damages incurred amount to a sum of 92,000 US dollars (about 80,000 euros).

In the police files available to the portal, Arnette’s hit-and-run is not mentioned. According to the files, the then 24-year-old had given the injured woman long enough assistance and had continued to the franchise’s premises to attend a team meeting after the authorities arrived, he said.

An acquaintance of Arnette’s remained at the scene of the accident and gave the NFL star’s personal details to police, it adds. According to the police, however, this was not the case, and instead the acquaintance tried to take the blame.

Arnette was eventually apprehended by police at the Raiders facility. As police records show, the pass defender is charged with unauthorised and dangerous lane change and culpability in a serious traffic accident.

Not a big factor in the Raiders’ game

“Mr. Arnette disagrees with the allegations made by the prosecution and would like to address them during the court process,” the Raiders player’s lawyer tells “TMZ”.

Despite being selected 19th overall in the 2020 draft by the Raiders, the former college star has yet to make an impact in Las Vegas. At the beginning of October, the 25-year-old was placed on the Injured Reserve List.
