Las Vegas Raiders: new low after horror performance by Jimmy Garoppolo

The Las Vegas Raiders put on a pathetic display against the Detroit Lions. Jimmy Garoppolo has a very bad day. The one who suffers most is Davante Adams.

Davante Adams had finally had enough! After the last drive of his Las Vegas Raiders at the Detroit Lions, the star receiver took off his helmet and angrily threw it on the ground.

All his frustration, which had built up over the past two hours, was vented in this action.

The 30-year-old made just one catch in the Raiders’ 14:26 defeat – for a meager eleven yards. Amon-Ra St. Brown, his counterpart from the Lions, covered almost ten times the distance (108 yards).

“To be honest, I don’t know what to say right now. I really don’t know,” Adams appeared speechless and at a loss after the fifth Raiders loss in the eighth game.

At the same time, he was seething so much that he had to take a step back, as he admitted himself. “I wish I could say something that wouldn’t cause a huge fuss in the media and be taken out of context,” the six-time Pro Bowler said.

But he found no such wording.

So what he was thinking at that moment will remain his secret. That he was particularly annoyed by the inaccurate passes from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo can nevertheless be taken as certain.

Four times Garoppolo missed Adams, who was running free, with long passes. In all, he completed just one of seven throws to his No. 1 pass receiver.

Garoppolo holds negative record

Adams himself was also infected by this uncertainty. He dropped a pass for a few yards just outside his own end zone at 14:16 in the third quarter.

Overall, however, it was the quarterback who had to bear the main responsibility for this defeat. A pass rate of just 47.6 percent, 126 passing yards and no touchdowns on an interception are a poor showing.

“Today was a bad day, there’s nothing to sugarcoat. I have to play better myself. It starts with me,” Garoppolo was self-critical. Jimmy G.” has already thrown nine interceptions this season, although he was not available to the Raiders for two and a half games. No other quarterback has thrown more intercepted passes.

In the game against the Lions, however, Adams wasn’t the only pass receiver the quarterback failed to find with his throws.

Not a single Raiders receiver touched the ball in the first half against the Lions. Sometimes stats do say a lot about the state of a team.

Josh McDaniels has to take credit for the fact that Las Vegas is not in the best of shape at the moment. After all, as head coach he is responsible for the performance of his team.

The 47-year-old worked for years as offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots and won the Super Bowl six times with Tom Brady.

It is therefore all the more incomprehensible that the Raiders’ offense simply cannot get going this season. Only once – in a 21-17 win over the Patriots – have the Raiders cracked the 20-point mark this season.

Little hope for the Raiders

That the team can still turn things around in the second half of the season and get into contention for the playoffs seems more unlikely than ever at this point. At 3-5, the Raiders are currently ahead of the Denver Broncos in the AFC West only because of the back-to-back they won, and not in last place in the division.

What is certain, however, is that the pressure will mount on McDaniels just as it has on Garoppolo.

And Adams? If NFL insider Dov Kleiman has his way, the Raiders should trade Aaron Rodgers’ longtime favorite starting center to the Green Bay Packers as soon as possible so he doesn’t have to continue to be a part of this drama.

“Josh McDaniels and Jimmy Garoppolo are killing this man. They need to allow him to find a new team.”

That, however, is easier said than done. This Tuesday is trade deadline day in the NFL.
