Las Vegas Raiders Josh McDaniels on Derek Carr “Have to find a ‘sweet spot'”

After the Las Vegas Raiders added personnel this offseason, next on the agenda is Derek Carr’s contract extension. Josh McDaniels made a statement about that at Monday’s owners and coaches meeting.

Munich/Las Vegas – Davante Adams, Chandler Jones or Jakob Johnson: The Las Vegas Raiders spent a lot of money on new players in free agency.

Now, after years of rest, the Raiders have to take care of the most important position on the NFL field: quarterback.

While Derek Carr is locked in for 2022, after that he becomes a free agent. So a new contract is on the horizon.

McDaniels speaks, Carr’s agent responds

Addressing the negotiations between Carr and the Raiders, new coach Josh McDaniels said at the NFL’s owners and coaches meeting in Palm Beach, “Derek has to make the decision that’s best for him and we have to do what’s best for the team.” The former New England Patriots offensive coordinator added: “We have to find a ‘sweet spot’. “

Not even half an hour later, Derek Carr’s agent Tim Younger felt called upon to respond to that statement on Twitter.

He wrote: “Clubs always do what’s best for the team. Players certainly don’t expect them to do what’s best for the player. Successful negotiations always result in a ‘sweet spot’. We do not comment publicly on ongoing negotiations,” Younger’s statement said.

Whether this tip towards the Raiders and McDaniels was coordinated with Carr himself, who is currently on holiday, is questionable.

In 2017, Carr signed a five-year, $125 million contract, a record at the time. Today, he ranks just 14th among quarterbacks with an annual salary of $25 million.

This is a ranking Carr will climb, that much is certain. The only open question is whether it will be with the Las Vegas Raiders or somewhere else.
