The Las Vegas Raiders are holding their training camp near Los Angeles – which is not without consequences, especially for the fans, due to an NFL directive.
The Las Vegas Raiders have decided to spend this year’s training camp near Los Angeles rather than at their facility.
Supporters of the team, meanwhile, should not plan to follow the team to their new location.
Although the Raiders have many supporters around the metropolis in California, due to a special NFL rule, fans will not be allowed to attend a training session.
The Raiders’ decision to hold their training camp near L.A. means that, according to league guidelines, they are entering the territory of the Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams – so the team will have to live with restrictions.
For example, fans are largely locked out and the franchise is not even allowed to advertise that they are in the region. In addition, the Raiders are not allowed to invite local media representatives from the region.
According to “CBS,” the team will invite some season ticket holders and VIPs to their 18-day stay, but everyone else will likely be excluded.
Raiders thwarted by Rams and Chargers
“Each club has an exclusive home field that extends 75 miles in all directions from the outer limits of the city in which the franchise is located. If another club holds its preseason training camp within this exclusive area, it cannot be marketed locally,” the NFL guidelines state, according to ESPN.
The Raiders camp will be held in Costa Mesa, about 40 miles from downtown L.A. The rookies are already on site, while the experienced players are expected to arrive on Tuesday.
By the way, the Chargers and Rams could have given the Raiders permission to market their trip to Los Angeles and welcome fans, but prevented it, according to Raiders owner Mark Davis.
“It would be nice if all the fans could be there, but whatever. Chargers and Rams have that opportunity,” he explained on “ESPN.”
Dallas Cowboys also on site in L.A.
The Raiders were based in L.A. from 1982 to 1994 and are still very popular there. In previous years, the Raiders had held their training camp in southern Nevada, but new head coach Antonio Pierce believes an out-of-town location promotes team unity.
“Team cohesion. You come together, get to know each other. Getting away from all the distractions, it’s all about the ball,” he explained to journalists.
Exciting: The Dallas Cowboys also train near L.A., but did so before the Rams and Chargers moved to the California metropolis and therefore do not have to obtain permission to invite fans or announce their presence
