Munich – Last February, a car accident involving then Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid caused a stir. The girl, who was seriously injured at the time, is now receiving financial support from the Kansas City franchise.
So the Chiefs are part of a plan that will offer medical and financial support to little Ariel Young – this was stated by the lawyer of the injured family. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ team also confirmed its involvement, but gave no details.
The then five-year-old was sitting in a car that was rammed by the assistant coach’s car on an on-ramp to a Kansas City highway. The girl suffered traumatic brain injury as a result.
Trial of Reid in April
“Ariel’s recovery has been a long road, but she has made great progress and is getting better every day. She had her first day of school this fall,” said attorney Tom Porto.
Reid, whose contract with the Chiefs expired at the end of last season and was not renewed, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The related trial is scheduled to begin next April, with head coach Andy Reid’s son pleading not guilty.
If convicted, he faces several years in prison.
