The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t let their guard down on the final day of the regular season, claiming a commanding 31-13 victory at the Las Vegas Raiders. The win puts Patrick Mahomes and Co. in first place in the AFC.
The Kansas City Chiefs have secured first place in the AFC. The team led by quarterback superstar Patrick Mahomes recorded its 14th win of the season in a 31-13 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday.
That means the Chiefs are no longer out of first place before the remaining games.
Home right on the road to the Super Bowl
This means not only a game-free Wild Card Round, but also home rights on the way to the Super Bowl on the night of 12 to 13 February 2023 (German time) at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
For the Raiders around German fullback Jakob Johnson, it was the eleventh defeat of the season with six wins. The topic of the play-offs had been over for the team for a long time.
The Chiefs never left any doubt in Vegas as to who would leave the field victorious. Mahomes threw for 202 yards and a touchdown.
Patrick Mahomes: No record
However, he was unable to break Peyton Manning’s all-time passing yards record, which remains at 5,477 yards. Mahomes finished the regular season with 5,250 yards.
For the Raiders, quarterback Jarrett Stidham, in his second stint as a starter, rushed for 219 yards, one touchdown and one interception. In return, he ran for another 50 yards.
Josh Jacobs runs for his dad
Touching side story: Josh Jacobs has had an eventful week.
The Raiders’ running back was on the field against the Chiefs – even though his father is still in intensive care following emergency heart surgery.
But Marty Jacobs told his indecisive son to play against the Chiefs no matter what and he would watch the game from the hospital in Tulsa. For Jacobs the rushing title should no longer be taken away, he came up with 45 yards and is now undisputedly in first place with 1,653 yards.
