After Harrison Butker made a speech with controversial statements, several thousand fans are now calling for his dismissal from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Kicker Harrison Butker of the Kansas City Chiefs gave a speech this week at Benedictine College, a strict Catholic school near Kansas City.
There he explicitly spoke out against a diverse society. He described social processes as the “tyranny of inclusion”, said that attending Pride events was “a mortal sin” and that women’s calling was to be “housewives and mothers”. One should “not allow oneself to be robbed of one’s masculinity”.
There is now a petition on the “change.org” platform calling for the dismissal of the three-time Super Bowl champion, which already has over 30,000 signatures. However, it remains to be seen how promising this petition will be.
The NFL itself has also already spoken out and clearly distanced itself from the kicker’s statements. “Harrison Butker made this speech on behalf of himself and not the NFL,” a spokesperson told PEOPLE magazine.
“These views are not those of the NFL or the Kansas City Chiefs. We remain committed to our roadmap of promoting inclusion and diversity. It’s the only way to make our league stronger,” it continues.
After the multiple arrests of wide receiver Rashee Rice, it is already the second scandal of the still young offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs.
