Quarterback Patrick Mahomes will not play in the Kansas City Chiefs’ final game of the regular season.
As Head Coach Andy Reid confirmed, backup Blaine Gabbert will be given preference in the away game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday (22:25 CET).
The Chiefs had already clinched their playoff spot last weekend. For the eighth time in a row, the reigning Super Bowl winners secured victory in the AFC West.
The Chiefs currently hold third place in the AFC. However, a win against the Chargers would also put them in second place if the Miami Dolphins lose to the Buffalo Bills.
The first seed and thus a bye week in the first playoff round is out of reach for the Chiefs, first place in the AFC has already been secured by the Baltimore Ravens.
