Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes likely to work out with receiver talent Zay Flowers

With just days to go before the 2023 NFL Draft, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will likely work out with Zay Flowers. That’s according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. Flowers is among the best receivers in this year’s class.

The Kansas City Chiefs have likely invited wide receiver Zay Flowers to work out with Patrick Mahomes. That’s according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. Flowers is among the top pass receivers in the 2023 NFL Draft, last season he collected 78 catches, which he converted into 1,077 yards and twelve touchdowns.

Currently, the Chiefs have eleven receivers under contract, most notably Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, Richie James Jr. and Skyy Moore. However, the Chiefs will have to compensate for the departures of JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman.

In the draft, the Chiefs have ten total picks, with the first-round pick at 31st overall. Should the Chiefs want to secure Flowers, they would likely have to select further up in the draft and trade with a team that has an earlier pick.

Unusual approach

Normally, team representatives travel to each draft prospect to work out with them on the spot. It is rather unusual for the star quarterback to be there in person.

It’s unclear if scouts, coaches or Chiefs officials will be at the workout. Either way, Mahomes and Flowers should be able to hone their chemistry a bit. Maybe the workout will bear fruit in a few months.
