Kansas City Chiefs: Andy Reid defends Eric Bieniemy after criticism from LeSean McCoy

LeSean McCoy criticised Eric Bieniemy, the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs, in a podcast and wondered why he has never been considered as a head coach. Andy Reid now backed up his coaching colleague and shot down the former running back’s criticism.

Munich – Andy Reid has defended his offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy following recent comments from LeSean McCoy. The Kansas City Chiefs head coach said McCoy’s harsh criticism said more about him than Bieniemy.

The former running back said on the “I Am Athlete” podcast that Bieniemy speaks badly to his players and that he has never been offered a head coaching job because of it.

Reid then countered on “Arrowhead Pride” that McCoy couldn’t handle the offensive coordinator’s honest criticism of him. McCoy reportedly didn’t accept with the Chiefs that he had long since passed the zenith of his career.

Andy Reid: “Bieniemy gives you his straight opinion “

“Sometimes it’s tough for a veteran player. Maybe he’s not at the level he used to be, and that’s tough to accept sometimes,” Reid said. “But Bieniemy always pushes you to your limits. That’s one of his strengths […] He tells you his opinion straight to your face. Sometimes you want to hear them. Sometimes you don’t. “

For him, the offensive coordinator has a good rapport with the players and will also make a good head coach in the NFL one day.

Reid had kind words for McCoy, though, and expressed himself as a “big LeSean fan.” He is a future Hall of Famer, but during his time with the Chiefs it was difficult for him to settle into his role, added Reid.
