The Kansas City Chiefs won their season opener at the Arizona Cardinals in commanding fashion. However, the 2020 champions suffered two injuries in Trent McDuffy and Harrison Butker. The culprit was quickly found for Head Coach Andy Reid: The turf at State Farm Stadium.
Munich/Glendale – Actually, the mood of the Kansas City Chiefs could not be better. More than dominant, the Chiefs defeated the Arizona Cardinals away from home 44:21.
However, two important players got injured in the game. Kicker Harrison Butker and rookie cornerback Trent McDuffie had to leave the game in the meantime. McDuffie is also expected to be out longer, he was placed on the Injured Reserve list.
“You all saw it”: Andy Reid blames grass for injuries
The turf at State Farm Stadium to Glendale was to blame, at least that’s what Head Coach Andy Reid says. “They relaid the turf, which is a good thing in itself because they practice here, too,” Reid said. “But the ground was still loose in places,” the veteran coach complained.
“That was also the main reasons for the injuries to Butker and McDuffie, they got under the new turf,” Reid said. “I wouldn’t tell you if it wasn’t. I don’t want that to be an excuse, you’ve all seen it and if you haven’t then watch the replay. “
Butker did come back to kick a field goal, but was visibly in pain and will most likely not be able to play Thursday against the Chargers.

The Chiefs have already signed Matt Ammendola as a replacement, who was released by the New York Jets last season after 11 games after sinking just two of eight field goals for 40 yards.
