Orlando Brown and the Kansas City Chiefs continue to disagree in negotiations over a new contract. Deadline approaches, holdout looms for the offensive tackle
Munich – The deadline is approaching – and things remain complicated between Orlando Brown and the Kansas City Chiefs. Because both parties are still far away from a new contract, as NFL insider Mike Garafolo reports. Accordingly, an agreement is not expected by Friday.
By then, Brown and the Chiefs would have to agree on a new, long-term contract. If not, the offensive tackle would have to play under the franchise tag, which he has not signed yet either. The tag would pay him a guaranteed $16.6 million for 2022, after all.
Other Salary Options
Himself, however, is targeting around $23 million, the current top salary of Trent Williams (49ers) at the left tackle position, where he played for the Chiefs last season.
But the Chiefs’ offer is said to be in the range of the top salary for a right tackle, which is the $19.2 million Ryan Ramczyk earns with the Saints. Brown played his first two years as a right tackle with the Baltimore Ravens. The three-time Pro Bowler left the Ravens for the Chiefs in the 2021 offseason via trade.
According to reports, a holdout with Brown is now a realistic possibility. Pretty sure for the start of training camp on July 26, but even beyond that, even a strike in Week 1 seems like a realistic possibility. He wouldn’t have to fear penalties for a holdout, by the way, if he doesn’t sign the tag, because technically he’s not under contract then.
