Kansas City Chiefs – After outburst: repercussions for Patrick Mahomes

The NFL is investigating Patrick Mahomes after his verbal outbursts. Head coach Andy Reid is also in the spotlight

It’s rare for Patrick Mahomes to snap. But his violent reactions after the 17:20 against the Buffalo Bills could have repercussions.

As NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports, the NFL has launched an investigation into the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and coach Andy Reid.

In a post on X, he explained: “While Patrick Mahomes’ comments after the game are under review, his shouting on the field directed at the referees before the game ended and then his comments on the field while the cameras were rolling could be a bigger issue.”

The quarterback superstar’s anger was sparked by a call by the referees with 1:25 minutes remaining when Mahomes passed the ball to tight end Travis Kelce, who in turn surprised Kadarius Toney with a pass.

With success: Toney ran into the end zone for the supposed touchdown. But the referees had already ruled an offensive offside

Kansas City Chiefs: Mahomes’ neck is fat

Meaning for the Chiefs: No touchdown, no victory, but a thick neck for Mahomes.

He slammed his helmet on the ground before venting his frustration at the referees. “We worked our asses off and you call offensive offsides!” shouted a visibly upset Mahomes. During the handshake with Bills quarterback, he can be heard continuing to rant: “Worst call I’ve ever seen, offensive offside, man. Just bad.”

It was hard to swallow, he emphasized at the press conference, where he had barely calmed down. “Not just for me, but for football in general. You take something away from Travis, who makes such a great play. We want the guys on the field to decide the game, not the referees,” Mahomes fumed: “They’re human, they make mistakes, but we talk about something every week. “

Questioning the integrity of referees has long been frowned upon in the NFL, emphasized Rapoport.

Reid also criticized the officials. “I’m very disappointed that it ended the way it did,” Reid said. “Usually I get – I don’t use any of this as an excuse, but usually I get a warning before something like that happens in a big game. (It’s) a little embarrassing in the National Football League for something like that to happen…”

Not embarrassing, but concerning is the Chiefs’ athletic development, which has now seen them lose three of their last four games and stand at 8-5. They now head to the New England Patriots in Week 15
