After the bar scandal, the players of the Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly turning their backs on coach Urban Meyer. He has “zero credibility”, they say.
Munich – The air is getting thin for Urban Meyer in Jacksonville. Very thin.
Because after the much-discussed bar visit including the video that went viral, the head coach of the Jaguars is in danger of losing what is probably the most important thing for his job: the support of the booth.
He has already been publicly ticked off by Jaguars owner Shahid Khan in a statement. “His behaviour over the weekend was inexcusable,” Khan wrote. Meyer, who was signed in January, had been danced on closely by a woman in the video.
Owner confident Meyer will deliver
“He now needs to regain our trust and respect,” said Khan, who revealed that there had already been a face-to-face conversation between the two, but its contents remained confidential. “I am confident that he will deliver,” Khan added.

The problem: Those who are supposed to deliver for Meyer on the pitch are apparently no longer behind their coach. “He has zero credibility,” one Jags player is quoted as saying by NFL Network’s Michael Silver. “He had very little from the beginning.”
Which is said to have cost Meyer a lot of credibility: He canceled Monday’s team meeting and apologized at each position group’s meeting. The 57-year-old had also apologised publicly on Monday. “I should not have put myself in that position,” he said, describing his behaviour as “just stupid. “
A critical point has been reached
Silver wrote of a “critical point” the situation had reached. In the eyes of the players, he had been “too cowardly” to answer to the entire team
All of this comes along with a difficult sporting situation. The Jaguars are in a state of flux and have started the new season with a 0-4 record.
