General Manager James Gladstone confirms that the Jags’ top pick could play an entire game on both offense and defense. Hunter is set to become the first true two-way player in the NFL in many years.

In the early days of the NFL, “two-way players” could be found on almost every team, but they have almost completely disappeared over the last 30 years.

Deion Sanders, the father of Browns quarterback Shedeur, was one of the last players to regularly play cornerback on defense and wide receiver on offense.

Against this backdrop, Travis Hunter is currently one of the most exciting prospects in the NFL. The Jaguars selected the 22-year-old with the second overall pick in this year’s draft after he played as a two-way player in college for the Colorado Buffaloes under head coach Sanders.

And the Jaguars are leaving no doubt that Hunter will also be used on both sides of the ball in the NFL. Possibly even for the duration of an entire game.

“He doesn’t get tired,” said General Manager James Gladstone in an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio: “He has the energy and physical attributes to do it.”

Hunter is currently training more with the Jags’ offense, as the plays are more difficult to learn than on defense. Gladstone explained that it is currently impossible to estimate how many snaps the top pick will actually play during the season. This will also depend on the opponent and the respective game plan.

But one thing is certain: those responsible in Jacksonville are convinced that, after many years, Travis Hunter will be a true two-way player in the NFL again in the coming season.
