Former rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit ends his stint in the NFL and returns to his roots.
Louis Rees-Zammit’s foray into the world of American football has come to an end. The Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver has announced that he is leaving the NFL and returning to rugby, the sport in which he previously enjoyed success.
“I have an exciting announcement to make! I have decided to leave the NFL and return to rugby!” Rees-Zammit wrote on Instagram.
“It’s been a great experience, but it’s time to go home. I’ve decided that now is the best time to make this decision so that I have enough time to prepare for next season.”
He continued: “I have only one thing on my mind: to play rugby again and do what I do best. I can’t describe how excited I am! There will be more news soon, but for now, I’ll say: see you soon, rugby fans.”
Rees-Zammit returns to rugby
Rees-Zammit was one of the best rugby players in Wales before deciding to try his luck in the NFL. He initially ended up with the Kansas City Chiefs via the Player Pathway Program. However, he only made three appearances in the preseason, catching just one pass for three yards.
The athlete was subsequently released by the Chiefs and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Back in June, he hinted at a return to rugby, but said he probably still had “a year or two to try it in the NFL.”
Now he has made a U-turn.
