The Jacksonville Jaguars are the first team in the draft, just like last year. A quarterback certainly won’t be this time, the Jags currently have four candidates in mind.
Munich – The Jacksonville Jaguars also have the number one pick in 2022 – and currently have four candidates in mind. That was revealed by general manager Trent Baalke a few days before the draft in Las Vegas.
He didn’t name any names, but he didn’t have to. In recent weeks, edge rushers Aidan Hutchinson and Travon Walker have been as hotly traded as offensive tackles Evan Neal and Ikem Ekwonu.
What is certain is that it will not be a quarterback, as the Jaguars did not select one until 2021, when they also had the first pick. Besides Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars also grabbed running back Travis Etienne in round one.
If the numerous mock drafts are anything to go by, Hutchinson could come out on top. “Aidan is a good football player. But there are other good football players in this draft,” Baalke said. “Who will be the best player when it’s all said and done? If we knew that, we’d be going to Las Vegas right now and making money. “
Will there be a trade?
Neither did new head coach Doug Pederson let his guard down this close to the draft. At least he conceded that Hutchinson would be a good fit for the team. “He’s a great leader and fits the kind of chemistry and makeup we’re looking for,” Pederson said.
However, things may turn out very differently. While no team has contacted Baalke about a trade on draft day, he did confirm the Jaguars’ interest in principle.
