The Indianapolis Colts have a new kicker: free agent Matt Gay signs a four-year contract in Indiana’s capital. The contract for the former Los Angeles Rams placekicker is historic
A new kicker will be attempting field goals at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis in the future.
Matt Gay, previously with the Los Angeles Rams, signs with the Indianapolis Colts on a four-year contract worth a whopping $22.5 million. That’s the most expensive contract any kicker has ever received in free agency.
Matt Gay known as a reliable kicker
This makes Gay the fourth highest paid kicker in the NFL, averaging $5.63 million per year. Only Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens, Kai’mi Fairbairn of the Houston Texans and Chris Boswell of the Pittsburgh Steelers receive more money annually.
The kicker situation with the Indianapolis Colts had been provisionally filled by Chase McLaughlin after the firing of Rodrigo Blankenship, now Colts GM Chris Ballard is hoping for stability at the position.
Gay made 239 of his 260 kicks (92 percent) during his time in Los Angeles, about 70 percent of his kickoffs are not returned.
