Indianapolis Colts: NFL betting scandal continues – Isaiah Rodgers allegedly placed “hundreds” of bets

The betting scandal in the NFL continues: After five suspensions so far, one player of the Indianapolis Colts seems to have been targeted by investigators: Cornerback Isaiah Rodgers. He is also said to have bet on games of his own team. He spoke out on Twitter about the accusations – and pleaded guilty.

The NFL apparently has the next gambler on the hook: As “ESPN” and other sources report, a player of the Indianapolis Colts has been targeted by investigators.

According to the report, the league has evidence that cornerback Isaiah Rodgers placed “hundreds” of bets, apparently including some on the Colts. A “significant” number of the bets were allegedly placed by the pro inside the team’s practice facility.

Rodgers plead guilty on Twitter

The NFL is already investigating the incident. On Twitter, Rodgers already pleaded guilty to the charges. “I take full responsibility for this,” he wrote: “I made a mistake. It’s a privilege to play in the NFL.”

It is further alleged that the bets were made through an account opened by an acquaintance of Rodgers. An indication that the defensive back was aware of the rules. Rodgers is a sixth-round pick out of 2020. Also means he’s entering his final year of his contract.

NFL regulations provide that players are not generally prohibited from betting on games from other sports as long as it does not occur on the practice field or in the course of doing one’s job as an NFL player, for example, while traveling to a game.

NFL issues suspensions

With this, the betting scandal continues to expand. In April, the world’s best football league had suspended five players for violating sports betting guidelines. Most recently, further investigations were made public following an “ESPN” report. In the first phase of the investigation, four Detroit Lions players and one Washington Commanders pro had been suspended.

Detroit receiver Quintez Cephus and safety C.J. Moore were suspended indefinitely, as was Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney. The trio will be eligible to apply for reinstatement to the league after one year. Detroit receivers Jameson Williams (a first-round pick in 2022) and Stanley Berryhill (in his second year) were each suspended for six games.
