Indianapolis Colts name Jones starter: Richardson remains professional, agent stunned

While Anthony Richardson is handling the Colts’ decision in favor of Daniel Jones professionally, his agent announces serious talks

Anthony Richardson is handling the Indianapolis Colts’ decision to name Daniel Jones as starting quarterback professionally. “You have to respect the decision,” Richardson said. “You have to respect that and just keep working.”

The Colts worked with Richardson for two and a half years, hoping he would develop into a franchise quarterback.

But the fourth pick in the 2023 NFL Draft couldn’t beat Jones, the former Giants first-round pick who signed with the Colts in free agency.

That’s a bad sign for Richardson’s development. But the 23-year-old insists he has worked hard on himself: “It doesn’t undermine the work I’ve done. It doesn’t mean I haven’t improved. I’m proud of the improvements I’ve made.”

Head coach Shane Streichen had simply made his decision. “That’s the decision we have to live with, but there are no hard feelings, nothing personal. I just have to keep growing. I can’t let the fact that I’m not a starter get to me. I have to keep working to be the player I want to be.”

Deiric Jackson, Richardson’s agent, is apparently having a harder time accepting the Colts’ decision. “We have a lot to discuss,” he told ESPN, referring to the Colts.

“Trust is a big factor, and that’s questionable at best right now. Anthony came back and improved in the areas he needed to improve.”

The agent reminded everyone of the role Richardson played for the Colts recently: “When they needed a big play last year, whose hands did they put the ball in? Anthony’s.”

However, this will no longer be the case next season.
