Indianapolis Colts: Contingency plan with Rivers?

Quarterback Daniel Jones’ season is over after tearing his Achilles tendon, and backup Riley Leonard is plagued by knee problems, so the Indianapolis Colts are looking for solutions. According to ESPN, the National Football League (NFL) club is working on a contingency plan involving Philip Rivers, even though the 44-year-old (!) ended his career after the 2020/21 season.

Rivers is scheduled to complete a workout in Indianapolis on Tuesday, after which a decision will be made. The veteran played for the San Diego and Los Angeles Chargers for 16 seasons before spending a year with the Colts before his retirement.

After a strong start to the season, Indianapolis had recently lost three games in a row. With 8 wins and 5 losses, the team is now third in the AFC North behind the Jacksonville Jaguars (9-4) and the Houston Texans (8-5). On Sunday (10:25 p.m. CET), they will face the strong Seattle Seahawks in the race for a playoff spot.

Jones was injured last Sunday in the 19-36 loss in Jacksonville, and on Monday, head coach Shane Steichen confirmed that his number one player was out for the season. The 28-year-old Jones, who played the last two games with a broken fibula, will require surgery.
